Raw dog food calculator
Adult dogs on raw food usually eat 2 to 3% of their ideal body weight a day, so about 500 g for a 20 kg dog. Puppies need much more, about 8% of their current weight up to 4 months, falling to adult levels by around 12 months.

Vets disagree about raw feeding. The AVMA discourages raw diets because they can carry Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria that affect pets and people, and home-made diets are often missing nutrients. If you feed raw, use a complete commercial raw food or a recipe from a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, and keep strict kitchen hygiene.
How this tool works
The calculator uses the common raw-feeding guide of 2 to 3% of body weight a day for adults (2.5% to maintain, 2% to lose weight, 3% for very active dogs) and, for puppies, about 8% up to 4 months tapering to 2.5% at 12 months.
It splits the total into a typical prey-model ratio: 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver and 5% other secreting organ.
Raw feeding is controversial. The American Veterinary Medical Association discourages raw diets because of the risk of bacteria such as Salmonella to pets and people, and home-made diets are often unbalanced. If you feed raw, use a complete commercial food or a recipe from a veterinary nutritionist.
Questions.
How much raw food should I feed my dog?
About 2 to 3% of ideal body weight a day for adults: 200 to 300 g for a 10 kg dog, 400 to 600 g for 20 kg and 600 to 900 g for 30 kg. Adjust by body condition.
Is raw food safe for dogs?
It carries real risks: bacteria such as Salmonella and Listeria, which can also infect people in the home, and nutritional gaps in home-made diets. Many vets advise against it, especially in homes with young children, older people or anyone with a weak immune system.
What is the 80/10/10 rule?
A common raw-feeding ratio: 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone and 10% organ, half of it liver. It isn't automatically complete and balanced without other ingredients.
