Cats are obligate carnivores and get little benefit from fruit. Banana isn't toxic, but frequent sugary treats can contribute to weight gain and, in diabetic cats, upset blood sugar control.

Can Cats Eat Bananas?
Updated October 2026 · By the Hushku editorial team · 1 sources
Yes, in moderation
A small bite is safe, but bananas aren't a good food for cats. They're high in sugar and carbohydrate, which cats don't need, and cats can't taste sweetness anyway. Skip them for overweight or diabetic cats.

What you need to know
How to offer it safely
- Offer no more than a small piece, occasionally.
- Not for diabetic or overweight cats.
Treats, including human food, should make up no more than about 10% of your cat's daily calories. Our calorie calculator shows your cat's daily needs. Introduce any new food slowly and stop if it causes vomiting or loose stools.
